Biography
Claudio Malacarne was born into a family of farmers living close to nature in the countryside of Mantua in northern Italy. His rhythmic landscape painting derive from scenes of nature and represent "details and particular images caught in moments of observation and reflection".
At an early age, teachers recognized Malacarne's ability to draw and his skillful use of color. They reocmmended he attend fine arts school but his parents were not supportive. Malacarne pursued his dream by passionately studying and observing the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists; Gauguin, Van Vogh, Soroilla, and the Fauves are among his favorite painters. Malacarne also visited artist studios in Mantua to further his education. When he began to exhibit, critics and the public responded immediately and he was granted several solo shows.
Malacarne searches for brilliant color and light in his travels to nearby Garda Lake, to southern Italy and the Caribbean. His glorious, organic images include flower gardens, palm trees, and marinas as well as animal and figurative subjects. Rather than using color simply to describe, Malacarne employes vivid, expressive colors to infuse his paintings with energy and emotion. Individual brushstrokes are confident and deliberate, and the color palette has been described as "rich, without limits." Summer has always been the artist's favorite season for experimenting with color and light contrasts.
One critic wrote: "Malacarne has the ability to surprise the eye with his vision - to reveal the invisible and show the miracle of simplicity." Another critic states, "Shadows don't exist for Malacarne. The light exists with its secrets which can be shattered in myriads of combinations. One leaves his exhibition of paintings with a heart full of harmonies."
Exhibitions
Malacarne continues to live and work in the countryside of Mantua. His work is included in collections across Europe, American and Japan.
